The South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a challenging opportunity for a Commercial Director to contribute to the strategic direction and optimise the economic performance of the South African sugar industry – locally and internationally.

SASA is an organisation that exists to promote the global competitiveness, profitability and sustainability of the South African sugar industry. We do this by providing specialist support to the cane growers and sugar millers who make up the sugar industry, and to their representative bodies, the SA Canegrowers' Association and the SA Sugar Millers' Association.  This partnership is administered by the SASA Council.

Reporting to the Executive Director and as member of the Executive Committee, the Commercial Director plays a key role in the leadership of SASA as a whole and is responsible for the international and national marketing functions.  These functions are crucial to providing specialist services that enhance the profitability, global competitiveness and sustainability of the industry.

The minimum tertiary education requirement would be a BSc Agric Economics or B.Com degree with Economics and Finance.  A post graduate qualification is anticipated for this high level position.  Representing a major South African industry, candidates need to be South African nationals.

The ideal candidate is also likely to have at least ten years’ experience in a managerial position in a commercial environment, preferably with five of these in a senior management capacity.  In addition to the strategic, leadership, relationship management, product quality, finance and risk management expertise that the candidate will have, their experience should ideally have provided applicants with a knowledge of derivative trading in commodities and/or financial markets.
