Field Ranger: Driftsands Nature Reserve

CapeNature seeks to employ a Field Ranger, based at the Driftsands Nature Reserve, with a salary of R122 810 per annum (TCoE) - Level 4.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Patrol duties, data collection and capturing, monitoring and assist with research projects

·         Perform law enforcement duties and provide support to Conservation Management and Environmental Crime Investigation Services

·         Provide assistance with Environmental Education (Youth Development), extension and interpretation

·         Perform supervisory, training and administrative duties

·         Maintenance of infrastructure and equipment

·         Assist in combating wildfires, quality control and overseeing of contractors

·         Assist with community conservation activities

·         Alien Invasive plants & general infrastructure mapping,

·         Determining of alien invasive plants densities & norms in consultation with project manager according to Working for Water and CapeNature applicable standards

·         Ensure alien clearing contractor compliance with Health & Safety regulations and standards as per Working for Water & CapeNature

·         Provide technical assistance to alien clearing contractors with regard to alien invasive plants clearing methods

·         Conduct quality control checks & assessments on AVM contractors 

·         Execute all other legitimate duties as instructed by manager



REQUIREMENTS:

·         Grade 12

·         Obtain an appropriate field ranger qualification within two years after appointment

·         A valid drivers licence

·         Physical ability to perform field ranger duties

·         No criminal record

·         Willingness to work irregular hours



RECOMMENDATIONS:

·       Relevant tertiary qualification in Nature Conservation or Natural science

·       Experience in Alien Vegetation Clearing projects

·       Experience and involvement in community development activities

·       Understanding of APOs and Working for Water quotation system

·       Bilingualism. Trilingualism will be an added advantage

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Provide administration management by maintaining the Audit System requirements, installing upgrades and monitor system performance. Perform sufficient quality reviews and assist support GIA Senior Management in the implementation of Quality Assurance Reviews and train GIA staff in its effective application.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
•    Work with Portfolio Managers to define the quality management plan and processes.
•    Performs quality reviews as stipulated in the Quality Assurance Manuals and Group Internal Audit Manuals.
•    Uploading of the audit plan.
•    Liaise with the IT Developers on changes or enhancement required to the Audit System.
•    Scope changes or enhancements required for the Audit System.
•    Monitor and pro- actively maintain the production application and technical infrastructure.
•    Deal with complex situations like scheduling of resources and moving resources around as required.
•    Respond to help desk support requested, assign the requests to appropriate resources based on the technology area (hardware, software, desktop, connectivity, enabling technology, etc) and ensure the requests are resolved in a timely manner.
•    Draw reports and interpret results on coverage, productivity and any other monitoring area required.
•    Provide the relevant training required for the department on the Audit System.
•    Assist and support GIA Senior Management in the implementation of Quality Assurance Reviews and train GIA staff in its effective application.
•    Assist in reviewing the GIA Audit Process, manuals and policies for adequacy and recommend and assist GIA management to effect improvements.
•    Assist GIA management in identification of performance gaps during the audit execution and, audit staff competency and proficiency gaps, and advice on areas of improvement.
•    Performance management and reporting.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•    B Degree/Diploma/Certificate in Audit or Information Management
•    3 years of Internal Audit Quality Assurance or related experience.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

•    Knowledge of a quality assurance process pertaining to the internal audit activity to monitor and assess the overall effectiveness of the quality program.
•    Knowledge of the IIA standards and its Quality Assurance processes and requirements.
•    Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
•    Experience in applying control frameworks such as COSO and COBIT
•    Ability to benchmark
