The University of Cape Town seeks to appoint a full-time Senior Family Physician (Vredenburg Hospital) in the Division of Family Medicine.
The successful candidate will co-ordinate and lead student teaching/learning activities in the Saldanha Bay Sub-district, including the clinics and other designated health facilities in the West Coast District, for students from both the MBChB and Health and Rehabilitation Sciences programmes. The appointment is to a full-time permanent post.
Requirements:
• Registration and good standing with the HPCSA as a specialist family physician
• Familiarity with the South African health care system
• At least two years’ experience in Clinic-based/problem-based teaching of health professionals
• The ability to interact and network effectively with a wide range of professionals, academics and community organizations
• Proven administrative and organizational skills
Recommendations:
• M Med (Family Medicine) completed in a full-time registrar training post
• Resident in Vredenburg
Responsibilities:
• Development and co-ordination of teaching, learning and assessment activities for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students in the West Coast District
• Assist with co-ordination of teaching/learning activities for undergraduate students in the UCT School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences
• Assist with setting up a teaching platform and programme for a future block where students in their 4th year of study will be expected to do clinical work driven by Family Medicine and Paediatrics, in a facility and community setting. This would involve negotiations with the district, sub-district and facilities management
• Part of the team that sets up and supports the project work in Public Health and Health Promotion
• Develop and sustain appropriate relationships with all relevant role players and stakeholders, including personnel at the Vredenburg Provincial Hospital and its associated clinics, community structures, NGO’s and local private practitioners
• Participate in Faculty activities such as staff meetings, staff development activities, strategic planning meetings, administrative meetings and representing the Faculty on the relevant District provincial health administrative structures
• Clinical governance and clinical service responsibilities as designated by the Sub-district management
