AGRICULTURAL ENGINEER
We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, dynamic forward thinking Agricultural Engineer to join our team of engineering specialists. The Engineers provide a varied service to the industry amongst which is mechanisation and irrigation support. The successful incumbent will be based in Mount Edgecombe.
This position will be responsible for designing and improving farming systems that account for the economic, social and environmental issues which impact on the sustainability of sugarcane production. Other key objectives of this position are:
Managing and participating in research that furthers SASRI's vision within the field of Agricultural Engineering.
Contributing towards the transfer of information and technology to other researchers and the industry.
Participating within the SASRI research framework.
Internal and external applicants will be reviewed simultaneously for this position and all are required to have:
At least an MSc Engineering (Agriculture) degree.
A minimum of 3 years relevant experience with a focus on research, development and adaption of new technologies.
Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
A valid driver's licence.

The ideal candidate will have the following competencies:
Ability
work independently as well as in a team

evaluate weather and soil conditions in order to revise plans and procedures
Experience
Valid drivers licence
Experience in Project Management.
2 years' experience in the Engineering field
Knowledge
commercial plants, animals and cultivation techniques to enhance the productivity/sustainability of farms and agricultural industries
designing, developing and managing the manufacture of agricultural machinery, equipment and instrumentation
environmental impact assessments
relevant legislation
international transport industry regulations
