In keeping with its mission of producing excellent scholarship and research, providing quality tuition and fostering active community engagement; and guided by the principles of lifelong learning, student centredness, innovation and creativity, the University of South Africa (Unisa) seeks to appoint a high calibre Executive Director to lead the Department of Corporate Communication and Marketing. The incumbent will be overall responsible for strategic communication and marketing of Unisa, in line with its vision and strategy.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Develop and deliver effective strategic communication and marketing in support of the core business of the University being, academic teaching and learning, research and innovation, and community engagement.
· Develop and deliver effective internal communication to ensure institutional strategic goals are being supported.
· Create and maintain a favourable climate in which mutually beneficial relationships are developed with all Unisa stakeholders.
· Create and maintain a healthy professional working relationship with local and international media.
· Provide strategic advice to the Principal and Vice Chancellor and the Executive Management of the University on the appropriate form, shape and platforms for communication and marketing.
Effectively and efficiently manage the resources, particularly finance and human resources allocated for communications and marketing.
· Identify and manage key risk areas pertaining to the University’s image, reputation and key decisions that need to be communicated internally and or externally.
· Ensure the Unisa brand is promoted and corporate identity executed in line with approved corporate identity guidelines.
· Conduct impact analyses to determine the effectiveness of communication and marketing campaigns and initiatives.
Requirements:
A relevant masters qualification or equivalent preferably in communications and/or marketing;
A collaborative, ethical, innovative and effective leadership style and a commitment to high performance and service standards.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English; knowledge of indigenous South African languages will be an added advantage.
A good understanding of the higher education sector in contemporary South Africa, specifically with regard to open and distance learning (ODL).
A strong track record/experience in communications and or marketing, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience at a senior management level in a medium to large organisation.
