Pharmacist Job at Netcare in Pietermaritzburg

Job Title: PHARMACIST
Location NETCARE ST ANNES HOSPITAL
Reporting structure PHARMACY MANAGER

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Pharmacist will be responsible for the provision of medication and supplementary services to patients and members of the healthcare team.
The incumbent will also assume responsibility for meeting patients needs in a responsible, satisfactory and cost-effective manner.

KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Dispensing medication
  • Dispensing in and out patient prescriptions.
  • Provision of a drug information service.
  • Assisting in ethical stock ordering, stock control and stock counts.
  • To assist with training of Pharmacist Assistants and Interns.
  • Implementation of controls to enforce GPP and SOPs to minimise risks.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with key role players.
  • To dispense retail prescriptions and counsel patients.
  • Communicating professionally and handling queries as per policy.
  • Assisting customers in Pharmacy and front shop.
  • Assisting with stock take, stock control and expired stock removal from shelves.
  • To assist/offer advice on the usage, side-effects, contra-indications and storage of medication.
  • Responsible for Balancing of S6 book in March, June, September and December and all scripts and invoices documentation and noted.
  • Administrative tasks.
  • Tidiness of Pharmacy.
  • To be on call 1 week a month.
  • Will be required to work one week-end per month – will be overtime

SKILLS PROFILE EDUCATION
  • A relevant Pharmaceutical qualification (B Pharm. Degree or Dip Pharm)
  • Registration with the SA Pharmacy Council
  • Must be computer literate 

WORK EXPERIENCE
  •  Work experience in a Hospital Pharmacy advantageous
  • Experience within a private hospital and/ or retail pharmacy will be advantageous
  • Involvement in clinical Pharmacy with a focus on quality of care
  • Retail dispensing and overseeing the Pharmacist assistants in the retail pharmacy

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Sound knowledge of private hospital and retail pharmacy business operations.
  • Knowledge of medical aids advantageous
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer service orientated with high working standards.
