Job Title: Designer

As a designer, you will need to provide art direction for digital projects as well as monitor changing product development. You will work with a team of people, including designers, copywriters and developers.

Creative

    Monitor the conceptual / visual evolution of product & application development
    Ensure that the highest creative & design standards are met
    Brand & CI custodian / gatekeeper on all interactive projects
    Implement the brand & communication strategy through design
    Prepare & present your own creative solutions as well as those of your team's

Production

    Design production from concept through to implementation
    Assist where appropriate in pitches & client presentations
    Deliver on design solutions for applications & templates in order to feed into your design team
    Overall accountability for performance of the designers in your team
    Develop, communicate & maintain strict design guidelines & consistency standards
    Work closely with your team to build visually striking marketing communications
    Assume a mentorship role to grow junior designers
    Assist & contribute toward regular creative team meetings
    Manage a variety of projects simultaneously
    Initiate brainstorming sessions & other planning activities with your team
    Liaise with technical managers & other members of the technical team
    Explore value-adds & advise on relevant technologies
    Industry networking

Operational

    Adhere to and create strict design guidelines and standards
    Work towards improving the skill set of your design team
    Assign work to junior designers as well as mentor and grow them
    Have the ability to manage multiple projects
    Ensure open lines of communication exist between the design team and management
    Work with project managers to identify new opportunities and work towards key goals
    Plan and run brainstorming sessions and other planning activities
    Identify new projects (cost and timing) and formulate creative briefs
    Liaise with technical managers and other teams within Marketing and within Pick n Pay

Requirements:

    3+ years of web and print experience - formal design training
    Assist with creation of online visual design, typography, visual concept, logos, icons, and other interactive platforms
    Proficient in MacOSX, Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Acrobat, Acrobat Distiller
    Knowledge and/or experience with Flash and web applications is a plus
    Able to effectively communicate and coordinate with writers and production artist ensuring visual design communicate desired message
    Experience on retail accounts is a plus
