JOB TITLE: MULTIMEDIA REPORTER
Location: eNCA Online Department in Johannesburg
Reporting to the News Editor, eNCA Online your key performance areas will include:
Identify stories in line with editorial policy and aims
Pitch ideas about original stories with a particular emphasis on web content
Keep up to date with major stories in the general news sphere
Keep abreast of major players.
Maintain and grow a current and relevant contact base
Arrange and prepare for interviews
Write final copy for multimedia pieces
Craft stories that seamlessly integrate visual, audio and graphical elements
Write web-ready pieces using broadcast source material
Lay voice and presenting on camera
Occasionally conduct live crossings
Plan and develop the visual presentation of the multimedia inserts and news broadcasts
Source visuals from archives when needed
Film and record audio and visual material to be edited and packaged as multimedia inserts and news broadcasts
Apply the principles of visual story telling through aesthetically pleasing and technically correct compositions, angles and camera movements
Deliver images with the correct exposure and colour saturation
Cover news events by filming sequences in continuity for editing purposes
Use the correct lighting and sound recording techniques complying with broadcast standards
Take full responsibility for ENG kit and associated equipment
Edit of multimedia packages
Upload stories and visual content into the content management system
Ensure stories are tagged and effectively linked to other relevant content
Technical troubleshooting
Assist with content for social network sites, including Twitter and Facebook
Assist on special reports with strong interactive multimedia components
Edit and script multimedia news stories for eNCA Online in a variety of formats, including news and feature-length online videos, audio slideshows, galleries and interviews
Work with the eNCA Online team to develop animation, slides and sound, info graphics and other “rich-media” content to enhance the effectiveness of news stories
Create, source and edit video packages and other rich media content across eNCA digital platforms
Requirements:
Computer Literate
2+ years working in a hard news environment
Demonstrable interest in and passion for hard news
Relevant, current contact base
Understanding of online news and new media
Perfect English
Strong writing skills
Strong visual sense
A passion for story telling
Strong understanding of journalistic ethics
Good grasp of legal issues around broadcast and online media
Strong work ethic
Good sense of humour and robust nature
Solutions- and outcomes-orientated
Good understanding of social media
Ability to work under extreme pressure, and deliver on deadline
Advantageous:
Experience shooting on Panasonic cameras
Proficiency with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Suite and/or other high-end video and photo editing tools.
Good understanding of local and international web video trends and best practice.
Familiarity with web content management systems
Ability to communicate in more than one of South Africa’s official languages
