Specialist: Software
Applications are invited for the position of Specialist: Software, based in Cape Town/Johannesburg. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Chief Specialist: Support Centre.
Major Activities:
•    Provide direction with regard to ATNS software systems analysis, software strategy advice in line with benchmarked industry trends, best practice for system software design, planning and provision of expert knowledge to influence architecture decisions
•    Develop and implement the software development processes for technology (R&D)
•    Maintain a software code and documentation, knowledge database in line with QMS procedures for area of responsibility
•    Participate in the software system design and planning process through reviewing and translating user requirements into functional and detailed technical design specifications
•    Provide input to RFP specifications and review
•    Recommend software development and architecture deployment planning methodologies in support of ETS engineering projects delivery that will affect communication systems
•    Support the total asset management framework and policy for software systems through ensuring compliance during the communication systems' asset inception to retirement
•    Participate in FAT/ SAT requiring specialist expert skills
•     Implement system capacity forecast models based on utilisation trends
•    Develop scripts necessary for efficiency improvement, process optimisation and automation such as preventative maintenance, etc
•    Research and recommend software tools necessary for advancement, process optimisation and efficiency of technology (R&D) software capability
•    Develop testing methods and scripts for the effective evaluation of software solutions and system performance
•    Ensure and validate integrity of new scripts and procedures to be implemented by technicians as per change control policy
•    Draft white papers and position papers related to software systems development
•    Participate in Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management forums such as ICAO, ITU-T, CANSO-reviewing specifications and agenda items
•    Contribute to, and make recommendations related to, frequency spectrum management and evolving requirements
•    Participate in research projects in line with partnerships that have been established within technology R&D for software development
•    Provide input to the technology forecasting and roadmap development in technology R&D
•    Recommend technology direction related to software systems OS, database platforms, applications servers and integration technologies. Minimum qualifications: B degree/BTech qualification in the field of Information/Software System Engineering.
Minimum experience:
•    Minimum of 5 years with extensive experience in software development
•    Experience and/or certification in software languages Java, C#, object-oriented and SOA development, SQL and/or data modelling (Oracle DBA will be an advantage), web services and administration (CXML, HTML, JSP, APACHE, etc)
•    Extensive and advanced experience in SDLC. Skills and competencies:
