Introduction:    

An opportunity for an Occupational Therapist has arisen at Siyathuthuka Care Centre in Belfast, Mpumalanga. This position will report to Malik Mosesanyane, Hospital Manager.

Critical Outputs:    

Plan and organise OT Services. Identify care users requiring Occupational Therapy. Select activities for groups and individuals based on activity analysis and functions. Develop departmental policies and procedures in consultation with OTT’s and OTA’s. Carry out future planning and submit to Manager
Implement and supervise activity programmes. Provide verbal or written referrals for care users under direct care of OTT’s and OTA’s. Teach activities and demonstrate therapeutic use and provide materials and equipment for activities. Check placement of OT records in care user’s files and participate in pre-discharge and community programmes. Prepare care users, advise, follow-up
Human Resources Management: Participate in recruitment and selection of OTT’s and OTA’s. Carry out orientation and induction of new staff. Check annual registration of OTT’s and OTA’s at INMDC. Provide opportunity for OTT and OTA career development, e.g. offer workshops, support attendance of courses, ensure feedback to colleagues
Provide and arrange formal training for student OTA’s and OTT’s and clinical supervision during training. Maintain regular communication with Hospital Manager, staff meetings memo’s and notices. Administer OT allowance and submit income and expenditure records. Attend relevant ongoing education, courses and undertake research

Requirements:    

Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
Two years working experience and registered with HPCSA
Clinical experience in long term psychiatry would be an advantage
Training in sensory integration and/or neuro-development technique would be an advantage
