Introduction:
A vacancy exists for a Clinical Engineering Technician reporting to the Services Manager, Esme van der Schyff, at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital. This job requires a well organized, enthusiastic individual with good interpersonal skills and communication ability. The ability to work in a demanding environment, accuracy and attention to detail is crucial. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management, maintenance and co-ordination of all major facets associated with medical technology within the hospital.
Critical Outputs:
•Management system
• Generate a five and ten year medical equipment replacement plan for all priority 1 and 2 medical equipment for the hospital
• Procure Medical Equipment
• Consult with Physicians & Nurses to evaluate the correct specifications and standards of the required equipment as per the Group Engineering, Pharmacy and Procurement protocols
• Communicate and negotiate with vendors to purchase the most cost effective equipment at the highest quality as per the Group Engineering and Procurement protocols
• Manage and monitor monthly Clinical Engineering budget.
• Be actively involved with the CAPEX system and understand lease and rental agreements as applied to the hospital Perform acceptance testing and evaluation
• Obtain and perform pre-acceptance inspections according to an ECRI standard test certificate in order to minimize downtime due to faulty equipment
• Conduct breakdown, preventative and scheduled inspection (IPM)
• Perform first line repairs, modifications and installations on equipment in accordance with the standards and recommendations of governing agencies
• Conduct staff training
• Perform formal operators training and monitor competency compliance by arranging training with vendors for hospital nursing staff
• Maintain high professional standards
• Maintain professional growth and development through professional affiliations, conferences and the internet to keep updated with the clinical engineering field
• Support National strategic initiatives and contribute to growth
• Participate in making suggestions and recommendations in order to be actively involved in projects, engineering and procurement functions
• Enable effective communication
• Establish a technical committee in order to consult with management regarding assignments, activities, requirements, problems and new technology
Requirements:
• Diploma in clinical / bio medical engineering or Diploma in electronics
• Experience in a clinical environment
• Current registration with the relevant professional / regulatory body
• Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage
