Job Title: Project Manager (Reference # 13771)
Position Purpose
A permanent vacancy exists in the MMI Group Finance - Enterprise Project Office (EPO) division for a Project Manager (PM) based in Centurion.
Working within the division’s project framework and as part of a team, the PM will be responsible for the management of various projects and/or programmes undertaken within the wider Group Finance environment.
Work Output
Project delivery is to occur within time, cost, quality and overall scope, and will include:
Definition: facilitating the definition of project business cases and project registration involving aligning projects to strategy through the development of a project Business Case.
Planning: Undertaking programme and project scoping workshops in order to define the project’s deliverables, scope, plan, risk matrix, budget, team and so forth and obtaining approval of these by constituting and managing a Project Steering Committee; to be encapsulated in a project Scope of Work.
Executing: Performing the management of the project through the application, control and management of budget and team members towards achieving the project’s deliverables. Providing regular written and presented feedback to the Project Steering Committee and managing regular team meetings. Controlling and reporting on expenditure. Resolving hurdles and managing risk as the project rolls out. Managing conflict and team member issues.
Closing: handing over the project to operations and delivering a finalisation report to the Project Steering Committee.
The PM may also be involved in the pre- and post-project phases:
Conceptualisation: facilitate management discussions around potential (concept) projects towards a decision on whether to proceed or not through the development of a Project Proposal.
Value/Benefit Realisation: determine the degree to which the programme/project has added value and provided the benefits originally envisaged.
The PM is also responsible to actively support and advance the strategy of the EPO, mainly through:
The Framework Support: adherence to and contribution to the improvement of the Group Finance Project Framework; this may include coaching others in its use and general mentoring of project resources.
Other Initiatives: participate in and assist in the driving of EPO and other divisional initiatives such as Knowledge Management, Special Interest Groups, Business Engagement, Group Finance IT Architecture Forum, Project Management tools/systems and so forth.
In order to be successful, the incumbent must be able to manage scope, plan and budget, promptly resolve issues, apply diligent project change control, provide accurate and realistic plans, carefully manage stakeholders and their expectations and must facilitate the translation of strategy into executable work.
The applicant should meet these requirements:
A university degree (or equivalent) in either business or information technology;
Recognised certification or qualification in project management
At least 5 years hands-on Project Management experience in managing medium and large projects and leading and facilitating cross-functional project teams
Absolute understanding and application of all PM tools and techniques;
Will have successfully completed at least 5 major projects/programmes with significant IT infrastructural and systems components;
A working knowledge and experience of financial management and reporting systems and processes;
Good facilitation and presentation skills;
General business and financial skills and experience;
Good interpersonal skills at all levels with a presentable and professional personality;
Strong command of the English language, both written and spoken;
Goal and delivery orientated and self-directed, driven and motivated;
Ability to operate in a multi-cultural environment.
