JOB TITLE: EDUCATION OFFICER

(ART MUSEUM)

POSITION CODE: 5552

Salary R200 208 – R231 168 per annum

Requirements:



    A Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and History of Art, with a Diploma in Education.
    A valid Code B driver’s licence.
    Experience in curriculum development for schools.
    Project management skills.
    Experience in facilitating interactive youth programmes.
    At least five years’ experience in teaching art at senior level (FET). Preference will be given to candidates with museum experience.

 Competencies:



    Good oral and written communication skills in English.
    Good oral and written communication skills in Afrikaans and IsiXhosa (a recommendation).
    Good computer skills in Microsoft Office.

 As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.



Summary of duties:



    Managing the Art Museum’s Education Office and supervising education staff.
    Initiating, developing, presenting and promoting collections-based education programmes and resources in accordance with the curriculum, where appropriate.
    Organising public events and programmes, such as conducting guided tours, liaising with the Friends of the Art Museum, and after-hours events, such as concerts and lectures.
    Developing, preparing and managing educational resources and materials.
    Reporting on education programmes.
    Assisting with outreach programmes in Nelson Mandela Bay.
    Assisting with the planning and development of the educational component of exhibitions.
    Liaising and interacting with the relevant education authorities and schools throughout Nelson Mandela Bay.
    Assisting with marketing Museum exhibitions, educational activities and events.
