Responsibilities:
• Performing of laboratory analyses
• Supporting and training of postgraduate students
• Assisting researchers/students with research projects
• Maintenance of laboratories and equipment, and keeping equipment and method records up to date
• Acting as safety representative for occupational safety
• Handling of orders, as well as negotiation with suppliers
• Quantifying and transforming data into a useable format
Minimum requirements:
• BSc Honour’s degree or equivalent qualification with analytical laboratory experience
• Proven knowledge and experience of laboratory techniques, as well as the willingness and ability to learn new techniques
• Computer literacy, especially with regard to data processing, including standard curve fittings and interpretation, Excel, MS Word, as well as email and internet
• The ability to work independently, accurately, neatly and systematically with results
• The ability to conduct specialised laboratory techniques extremely accurately and precisely (including pipetting of small volumes, mixing of buffers and reagents and temperature control)
• Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
• Experience and knowledge in the execution and standardising of biological analytical methods.
Recommendations:
• Appropriate experience and skills in chromatography, mass spectrometry, ELISA and preparation of biological samples
Total remuneration package: R219 363 – R260 465 per annum (employer contribution in respect of fringe benefits included)
COMMENCEMENT OF DUTIES: 1 March 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter
