Legal Advisor Job at Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in Port Elizabeth


JOB TITLE: LEGAL ADVISOR: LITIGATION AND CLAIMS

(LEGAL SERVICES)

POSITION CODE: 5674

Salary R298 788 – R329 772 per annum

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)



In compliance with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Employment Equity Plan, preference will be given to suitably qualified Coloured (female) applicants.



Requirements:



    An appropriate tertiary legal qualification (NQF Level 7).
    At least three years’ working experience in a legal advisory environment.
    Appropriate career-related experience in a municipal or public service legal environment.
    Admitted attorney or advocate; or competency to be admitted.

 Competencies:



    An understanding of claims, collections and litigation related matters.
    A sound knowledge of the Municipal Systems Act and other applicable local government legislation.
    Computer literacy and excellent report-writing and presentation skills.

 As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.



Summary of duties:



    Providing effective legal support on claims, litigation and collections related matters.
    Legal opinion and advisory work.

 The incumbent will report to the Assistant Director: Litigation and Claims.

Proof of academic qualifications:

-           Should the necessity to determine equivalence of qualification and/or the verification/confirmation of same be required, this should be established via the relevant verification authority and the responsibility will rest with the applicants themselves.
