Job Title: Network Administrator

Main Purpose:

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A JUNIOR POSITION

The Network Administrator should install and maintain the Network in an office. As several types of computer systems and configurations exist, the Administrator should be able to install, configure and maintain all the systems used.

In addition, the Administrator should also support the IT support staff regarding the use of applications and the network functionality. Hence, the administrator should be able to answer users / IT staffs questions regarding applications and the use of the network.

Responsibilities/Output:

Maintain server volumes. Maintain server hardware. Receive and check newly delivered LAN related hardware and software. Maintain all server related (hardware and operating system) software. This includes patches and licensing software. Install and configure servers, printers, applications and any other peripherals that integrate with the LAN. Be able to change existing configurations. Check if enough disk space is available and take action if necessary. Take care of malfunctions on hardware, software and infrastructure. Record failures in the appropriate logbooks. Monitoring and securing the operational process on the network. This includes performance monitoring, monitoring error logs and taking proper action if necessary. Making sure that users don't misuse disk space, and take appropriate actions when necessary. Signalling future capacity problems (e.g. more disk space needed) to the office management. Performing disaster recovery procedures if necessary. Register hardware and software (use and licenses). Check the server performance. CPU, memory, network utilization, hard drive access. Purge volumes regularly. Check for updates from the software companies. Monitor UPS systems and server room environment (temperature, access etc.) User Administration Maintaining Users. Maintaining Printer Queues. Maintaining Access rights. Delete or deactivate old users as they leave. Move the files or delete where and when necessary from the server so as not to have clutter. Maintain tapes and backup devices (Hardware and Software). Maintain backup tapes, including performing the necessary back-ups and security measures. Keeping users informed concerning what data is backed. Supplying users with procedures on how to retrieve back-up files Planning and implementing Backup procedures. Planning and implementing offsite storage procedures. Create a test volume and do a restore of the data from the off site copy of a full backup on a regular basis. Maintain Server network operating system. Maintain Anti Virus Software. Virus prevention, detection and reporting. Executing Head Office guidelines regarding virus prevention. Making sure that the virus scanners are regularly updated. Writing and distributing guidelines for users in case of virus infection. Reporting occurrences of virus infections to the branch management. Creating measures to prevent virus infections. Checking the proper operation of the virus scanners on a regular basis. Checking new software and hardware for viruses before installation. Run Software updates on Software Applications on Servers. Network Infrastructure Ensure New Points are installed when needed. Ensure the Patch rooms are at all stages in a working and neat condition. Ensure network cables and points are all in a working condition. Responsible for all network points that’s faulty. Ensure Installation, or moving of any network points. Check the hubs, switches and routers for collisions or other network anomalies. Record any problematic network interface cards that cause collisions or any other network traffic problems on LAN. Monitor all network points and plan for future growth. Responsible for handing in Security reports to IT Manager on a monthly basis. Ensuring all network related security policies and procedures are in place and maintained. Check monthly security reports on the Internet and ensure that all possible flaws are fixed. Lease with Security co-ordinator on a monthly basis of any changes, new policies and procedures that have to be implemented or security issues that have to be discussed.
