Job Title: Project Manager

Twee river catchment rehabilitation

North West Area

West Coast Regional Office, Porterville

(Contract appointment until 30 September 2016)

Salary R 275 741 per annum (TCoE) Level 8

This position will seek to initiate the restoration of the Twee River catchment through focused interventions around alien invasive species management, rehabilitation, awareness and better practice management on private land. The project manager must have an interest in working with freshwater aquatic habitats and riparian landowners and the challenges facing these areas. Alignment with broader stakeholder groups and related initiatives (WWF Sustainable Fruit project) within this target landscape would be essential towards reaching of the project outputs.

Responsibilities:

    Manage the alien invasive (fish and plant) clearing contracts and contractors
    Co-ordinate training of contractors and workers
    Alignment with relevant sustainable fruit and water stewardship initiatives
    Implement the WWF Sustainable Fruit project, including development of farm management plans around better practice and freshwater management
    Implement CapeNature’s Stewardship methodology
    Implementation of freshwater and species awareness programmes
    Contribute towards development of larger conservation plan for catchment
    Preparation of progress and financial reports
    Implement relevant policies, directives and regulations

Requirements:

    An appropriate tertiary qualification in Environmental or Ecological Management, Nature Conservation, Agricultural Extension or equivalent qualification
    At least 3 – 5 year’s previous experience in extension work with landowners, project management, contract management and working within a multi stakeholder project
    Previous experience in alien vegetation control and stewardship methodology
    Knowledge of the Working for Water / Wetlands Programs
    Conversant with Occupational Health and Safety legislation
    Excellent report writing and computer skills, with minimum requirements proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and ArcView
    A valid Code EB driver’s license with own transport
    Ability to work under pressure
    Physical fitness to perform duties and inspections
    Bilingualism in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape Province (fluency in Afrikaans is essential)
